DATE: October 20, 1907
EVENT: Jack and Akut happened upon a native village. They chased Jack away and he killed a pursuer and took his long spear, shield, knife, loincloth, ankle, and armbands.
SOURCE: "One day as they were moving slowly along beside a river they came unexpectedly upon a native village." ERB-The Son Of Tarzan.
"The boy's heart leaped within his breast at the sight of them - for over a month he had seen no human being." ERB-The Son Of Tarzan.
CHAT: I have read articles where some ERB researchers have described this kill as a murder. Call it whatever you want in the safety of your home. ERB is quite clear that Jack did not think of it as murder and never felt guilty over his first human kill. "There were no after-qualms of conscience." ERB-The Son Of Tarzan.
Akut gave Jack a Mangani name, Korak, which translates to Killer. "Come, Kotak, son of Tarzan, let us go to our people." Months before Akut had given the boy a name of his own choosing, since he could not master the man given name of Jack. Korak is as it may be interpreted unto human speech. In the language of the apes it means Killer. ERB-The Son Of Tarzan.
