Tarzan & The Treasure Of Opar: A Review

One of the greatest experiences I have ever enjoyed as an Edgar Rice Burroughs fan is joining the ERB-APA. (Edgar Rice Burroughs Amatur Press Association) I became a member with and received, ERB-APA # 1, but my first contribution, because of the deadline for sending in material, was printed in ERB-APA #2. I was a continuous member until ERB-APA #114, not contributing to #113 and #114.

I originally joined the ERB-APA in hopes of striking up a Tarzan Chronology conversation with John F. Roy. I did, and that conversation lasted several issues. After John passed, that Tarzan Chronology conversation landed on Alan Hanson, whose ERB knowledge I respect so very much. In turn, this ERB-APA conversation inspired Alan to write A Chrono-log of Edgar Rice Burroughs Tarzan Series. A fantastic 1888 Tarzan Chronology which was loved and respected by many Tarzan fans.

I got to meet several ERB-APA members at the ECOF (Edgar Rice Burroughs Chain Of Fellowship) in Annapolis, MD and Tarzana, CA. One of those great people was Tony Menegazzo who I was first introduced to while writing for Tarzine. Tony and I hit it off from the very first introduction. He is a Chicago boy and I am a ridge runner out of the east Tennessee mountains. Tony and I hang out a lot at the ECOF at Bill Ross' in Annapolis, MD, and in three days I got to know him pretty well.

Tony, as an ERB-APA member, contributed lots of original comic book art to our ERB fan publication. In ERB-APA #22, 1989 I approached Tony about starting a Tarzan comic book fan drawn by ERB-APA members. The plan was for one member to draw an episode for one issue, and a second member drew for the next issue. There was no set storyline and each contributor took the storyline in the direction he wanted. Tony had the privilege of drawing the first contribution.

After Tarzan & The Treasure Of Opar ran its course in the ERB-APA Tony Menegazzo was good enough to organize the eleven chapters into a single volume and redistribute it to ERB-APA members. Thank you Tony.
