Joe Ferrier - Once again Joe I would like to thank you for taking the time to chat with me over the past couple of issues. Again I must apologize for not replying to Tarzan Premature? in ERB-APA #47, but I would like to do so now.
ERB-APA #47 |
First of all, when I read your article I couldn't believe you were talking about my 1872 chronology. Are you sure you have read it? If so, you better read it again because you sure missed out on what it said.
Before quickly defending my writings let's quickly go over yours. Instead of trying to figure out who said what about this or that let's go back and clear up your provided 1888 chronology.
- mid-October 1888 Tarzan's birthdate.
- 1901 Tarzan met and impregnated Jane.
- November 1901 Jack Clayton (Korak) was born out of wedlock.
- September 26, 1918, through November 1, 1918, Argonne Front in France.
- 1919 Jack Clayton and Meriem marry offstage.
Is this now correct? Still, there is hardly enough information here for me to talk chronology with you. Five events don't make a chronology. Please fill in the gaps.
Joe, how you got my 1872 chronology stating Tarzan was born prematurely is a mystery to me. I have never written, nor does my chronology imply Tarzan was born prematurely. If you will reread my chronology article Tarzan's Mom And Dad you will quickly discover Tarzan is a normal nine-month conceived child.
Also, I don't see how a quote from Tarzan The Untamed describing a storm has anything to do with the lunar eclipse Edgar Rice Burroughs himself described in Jungle Tales Of Tarzan, I realize the description in Tarzan The Untamed has the word eclipse in it, but it is not describing an eclipse of the sun or moon. It describes the hiding or shielding of the moon by cloud coverage. In Jungle Tales Of Tarzan, the use of the word eclipse describes a full lunar eclipse of the moon. The two-word uses of the eclipse are described very differently.
Now, let's move to your comments in ERB-APA #47. I would like to congratulate you on your car research. Exactly what you are trying to prove I'm not sure. If you are trying to say it was impossible for Robert Canler to pull up before the farmhouse in his purring six-cylinder automobile in an 1872 chronology I will quickly agree with you. I have stated this on a regular basis since my article John And Mike Talk Apes And Cars which was printed in ERB-APA #17, on March 31, 1988. Now Joe, if you want to be two sides of a coin man please tell us what kind of automobiles were possible for Tarzan's 1893 Wisconsin visit. You may be surprised at the various brands that existed in 1893.
Oh yea, if you want to get my 1872 chronology on two more minor bugs be sure to write articles about "skyscrapers" in New York and the use of the word "limousine" in Paris. Please, Joe, these are things I have written articles about long ago, and I thought thoroughly discussed. Let's at least try to keep our old conversation new for the sake of the members who have already gone through it.
